I just wanted to send you a quick note to tell you how happy we were with Jeff.  He was amazing!  Jeff was always prepared and professional.  He had such great ideas, but also listened to what was important to us and kept that in the forefront.  Because of Jeff, I had so much peace about the day and pulling the event off.  On top of all that, I just love this guy as a person.  He’s a great guy with a wonderful personality and sense of humor.  I told him how much we appreciated him, but I also think it is important for you to know.

I also don’t want to forget about Miss Amber.  She came along later in our plans, but again she was a joy to work with and we loved her to death too.

Planning our daughter’s destination wedding in Texas from our home in Alaska with the bride living in Boston looked like it was going to be quite a challenge. Then we called Kathie Millen!  We found her company and website through The Knot.com (We later happened to see her on a television episode of WE TV’s “The Wedding Planners.”)

Kathie took care of everything from recommending and interviewing vendors, creating a budget, timeline, and all the logistics.  Our daughter, Ashley, had already chosen Horseshoe Bay Resort as the venue for her destination wedding. Kathie went all the way out there from Austin several times to work with Kris at the resort and take video and pictures so we could see exactly what the facilities looked like since none of us had ever been there.  She asked Ashley for pictures and ideas of what she wanted (or didn’t want) her wedding to look like and the outcome was beautiful! She helped us stay within the budget with smart suggestions and good advice.  Over the months leading up to the October wedding, Kathie and her excellent staff were never too busy to answer our questions and address our concerns either by phone or email.  Chatting with Kathie on the phone, I felt as though I had made a new friend even though we had never met. Ashley’s happiness on the day of her wedding was her number one concern!

We finally got to meet Kathie and Shelly when we arrived in Austin and we knew everything would be smooth going on the day of the wedding. The radiant look on Ashley’s face as she looked down at her beautiful wedding site for the first time on her wedding day will be forever etched in my mind. Kathie, Shelly, and Alyssa had created exactly what Ashley envisioned and it was so beautiful! They did an awesome job on all the floral arrangements and décor.  The reception room was equally as beautiful and more than we had ever imagined. Throughout the night, the ladies made sure everyone was happy and having a wonderful time. They kept things running smoothly and on schedule as much as possible (everyone was having too much fun!) and made the evening a huge success!

So, I am sitting in the library that looks out over the ocean with the cool breeze blowing and drinking a delicious cup of coffee. We were upgraded to a deluxe veranda suite upon arrival and I just cannot tell you guys how beautiful this place is. We woke up this morning at 8:45, stepped onto our veranda and watched the waves rolling in through the beautiful flowers spilling over our veranda roof and then they delivered breakfast to us to enjoy out on our veranda with the BEST orange juice and amazing food. We then went to the beach and layed around in the sun, scheduled a boat trip to Dunn’s River Falls and the Laughing Waters for tomorrow and we have a massage tonight at 6 called the “Moonlight Serenade” then a facial and massage on Wednesday. They are having a barbecue on the beach tomorrow night and I must say, we don’t need to leave this place to have fun and perfect relaxation.

My husband and I give Kathie Millen and her staff our highest recommendation.  We simply could not be happier with the their performance in planning our wedding.

We were facing difficult and unusual circumstances since we were holding our February 2009 wedding in Austin, although we lived in Atlanta, Georgia and had never actually lived in Austin.  You see, my family members reside in Austin and own a business there — and we wanted to make things easier for them.  Thus, we decided to bring the wedding to their city. When I first spoke with Kathie Millen, and told her of my expectations and visions for our wedding, she immediately knew what I’ve been dreaming about since I was a young girl.  She envisioned it as well, and came up with a beautiful fairy tail wedding.  Kathie, along with Deidre Brown, needed nothing else than what my vision was — a “Hollywood glam” feel.  For my initial visit with Kathie and her team, they lined up appointments with several top vendors so that I could choose from the best in town.  I went to this first meeting with my mother to help me out and Kathie and her team made us feel right at home.  They made my mother and I feel as if we had known them for our whole lives.  On the several other visits to Austin we had leading up to our big day, my husband and I visited Kathie and her team to plan out the rest of our wedding.  Kathie and her team always made sure that everything we requested was taken care of and were attentive to every detail.  They went out of their way to make sure my husband and I were fully satisfied and left no stone unturned.

Because of their tireless work, Kathie and her team carried out what would be the talk of the night at the Driskill Hotel — where our reception was held.  We had a traditional Greek wedding at the Transfiguration Greek Orthodox church.  And thanks to Kathie efforts, the church “never looked so beautiful”, the priest said.  We have heard many great compliments from our guests about our wedding ceremony and reception.  Some have even said it was the “most beautiful wedding ceremony” and “classiest reception” they have ever attended.  This is all due to Kathie’s incredible efforts!

7. They go way above and beyond. Three of the planners drove an hour and a half to San Antonio just to learn how to bustle my dress. They also set up for my bridal shower, and even left a beautiful gift for my fiancé and me.

5. They keep their cool even when your family loses theirs.

4. They always remain patient –  Kathie and Vivian brought in photographer after photographer for me to speak with, but I kept insisting that I wasn’t sure. Then I ended up hiring the first photographer I had met. During all of this, they never got impatient with me.

3. They’re fun to be around! They make planning fun. Meeting for lunches, rentals, or vendor interviews are not only productive but enjoyable.

2. They are thorough. No detail escapes them.

1. They are there until the end, no matter what. I found out the day after my wedding that while setting up for my wedding a member had fallen and broken her arm. She never told me, my fiancé, or our families that she was injured, and she stayed through the entire wedding!!!! This is true professionalism.

On the plane back from Europe, Cynthia (my fiancé) had on a whim picked up some bridal magazines for us to look through. I had asked her to marry me while we were in Belgium and frankly I thought the hard part was over. After Cynthia started to thumb through one of the encyclopedia-sized magazines, we both began to realize how wrong I was. The magazine gave us hints on picking out the right dress (we knew that was going to be important), the right church (ditto), how to find out if you want a DJ or a band (we weren’t too clear on this one), creating blocks of hotel rooms for out-of-town guests (I knew how to book a hotel online but that was about it), finding the right caterer, photographer, florist, linens… We were about 40,000 feet above the Atlantic Ocean and just began to realize that we had no idea what to do or where to start.

One of the magazines mentioned that getting a wedding planner was a smart, money-saving move that more couples should do. I had two misconceptions of wedding planners before we began interviewing them: I thought wedding planners were strictly for the ultra rich or all looked like J Lo. We decided, with our immense lack of knowledge of wedding intricacies, that it might be a good idea to call some Austin wedding planners and get more information about their services.

Because we like to torture ourselves, we scheduled five wedding planners on the same day. Our first interview was with Austin Wedding Planners, at 7:30 am on a Saturday. I was barely awake and Cynthia had already decided that we were not going to have a wedding planner. We met Kathie and Jeff and were a bit confused. Here were two people who were cheerful at this early hour and did not seem the least bit pretentious. Kathie and Jeff did a wonderful job explaining the role of a wedding planner. Wedding planners pay for themselves in the discounts they receive from various vendors and insider contacts.

By picking the wedding planners that runs the “Bridal Extravaganza,” we made sure that we picked a company that had the best resources available. Beyond the discounts and introducing us to vendors we would have never known about, they helped us pick a location that suited our needs perfectly (we had 200 guests coming in from 10 different countries), got us discounts on hotel room blocks, and made sure the rehearsal, rehearsal dinner, wedding ceremony, and reception ran smoothly.

Kathie and Jeff were so friendly throughout the process, taking their time to explain every aspect of the services they provide. We left the meeting and for the first time since getting freaked out on the plane, we were actually excited again about getting married. Sometimes it is hard to remember that this whole process is supposed to be fun and exciting, not a tedious and stressful process.

We went to our other four interviews but no one impressed us as much as Austin Wedding Planners. We decided to use them for our wedding for a few reasons: their connections with vendors, their personalities, and their presentation. When we researched wedding planners in Austin, everyone knew Austin Wedding Planners and had nothing but great things to say about Kathie and her staff.

The next nine months were a blur of preparation. However Kathie and Jeff were always available to answer any questions (no matter how small) we had along the way. Kathie and Jeff paid for themselves right away on our first purchase. We had to buy linens and Kathie’s exclusive discount saved us 50% off our linens and chairs. The discount turned out to be more than the fee we paid Austin Wedding Planners, so every additional discount we got (on the invitations, cake, tuxedos, etc.) felt like money that was going back to us. Kathie helped us find the perfect reception area downtown near the hotels, where our guests stayed. Jeff coordinated transportation to and from the church and reception. They came up with an innovative way to set-up our desert table. Everything was truly fantastic.

They introduced us to I Do Photography who was by far the best vendor at our wedding. Erica and Jessica not only blew us away with their unbelievable prices but also with their photos of such high quality. We didn’t hesitate for a second to book them on the spot. The bridal photos and pictures from the reception were perfect. Erica and Jessica compliment each other because they have contrasting styles in both personality and the way they shoot photos. Erica enjoys catching people when they aren’t looking at the camera so you get a lot of memorable candid photos that really capture the guests’ personalities. Jessica sets up posed pictures that are ready to go on either your mantle or wall as soon as they are taken. We got more compliments about the photos then any other aspect of our wedding (that might be a small exaggeration; I did look stunning in my tuxedo).

I could write a list of all the things they did for us leading up to the wedding but it wasn’t the wedding coordination that was the biggest service, it was the piece of mind. Knowing that Cynthia and I only had to focus on inviting our family and friends and making sure we were taken care of made the wedding planning a very stress-free process. We actually, dare I say it, enjoyed the wedding coordination that lead up to the big day.

The day of the rehearsal dinner came and we had to coordinate 60 guests for that dinner (there were 9 groomsmen and bridesmaids). Kathie went early to make sure the church was open and that everyone that should be there was. Jeff went to the rehearsal dinner, Old Pecan Street on 6th, to make sure it was decorated and that there were no issues. There wasn’t a single moment when Kathie and Jeff didn’t have a smile on their faces or seemed stressed, which, of course, allowed Cynthia and I to enjoy every minute of our rehearsal dinner.

The wedding day was full of people getting ready, which really put Kathie and Jeff to the test. All those months of preparations would either payoff or cause mass chaos. The first phone call I received that morning came from Kathie. I panicked. Why is she calling me? Who isn’t coming? Did one of the vendors cancel? Actually, she just called to assure that me everything was going to be okay and to remind me to enjoy the day.

Our wedding day was perfect. I truly am the luckiest man in the world. I married the woman I love. Kathie made that day perfect. Jeff was outstanding during the reception creating some memorable pictures and memories. Not only did I get the perfect wedding out of Austin Wedding Planners but I gained two new friends that will always be a part of our family. They found a way to take my Cuban and Dutch family and Cynthia’s Mexican family and create a night where everyone felt both included and enjoyed themselves.

I am just now beginning to recover from our FABULOUS week-end! We got Britt. And Brad off to Buenos Aires Sun. afternoon. Then I collapsed. It was probably one of the best nights of my life. The celebration was exactly what we had hoped for. You wouldn’t believe the number of e-mails and phone calls I’ve received raving about the beautiful reception and wonderful affair it turned out to be. We absolutely couldn’t have pulled this off without you two lovely ladies to keep us on track. I may be a bit partial as the MOB, but I think Brittany was the most beautiful bride I have ever seen. I attribute this to a woman who is truly in love. I pick the two of them up at the airport tomorrow. (Wed.) I know we’ll all be reminiscing about the extraordinary wedding. Dear Kathie,
I am writing this letter with hopes that you can share it with potential clients, because I feel very strongly that your services were so extraordinary and that others need to know what a superb job you do.

My wife and I were married in May of 2006, it was rather tricky since many of her family members who were attending live in Brazil. I determined right after our engagement that it was going to take a master of organization to put this together, given the distance and the timeframe. Kathie was referred to me and after our initial meeting, I quickly determined that she had all of the skills and contacts that were needed to put this very important event together.

Kathie arranged for my wife, Priscilla to meet with numerous vendors so that she could compare quality and the costs involved before deciding who would best fit her needs. We were both extremely impressed with the quality and professionalism of the vendors that she referred us to and it was a difficult decision to determine who was right for the venue that we wanted. We were also very impressed with how carefully and meticulously Kathie arranged each of the meetings and that she attended each of these meetings with us to ask the right questions and assist us in our decision-making process.

During the time between our initial meeting and the wedding date, Kathie kept in continual touch with us to inform us of things that needed to be done and to keep us abreast of what was happening with various vendors. It was wonderful to have someone that was on top of all details and who constantly reassured us that things were going together beautifully and reminding us to not worry, to just to relax and enjoy the fun part of those final days. We were definitely able to do that and I cannot stress enough how much it meant to all of us involved in the wedding, to be able to totally put everything in Kathie’s capable hands on the day of the wedding. It gave each of us the freedom to thoroughly enjoy each and every minute of the day. I credit Kathie and her attention to detail for everything going together in such a smooth, stress-free manner.

Our wedding had an interesting twist – we had planned on an outdoor wedding thinking, “Its Texas, it won’t rain” and we were right… that is until half an hour before the service. The sky opened up and it began to pour. I had no idea what to do, I looked to Kathie and saw that she was already in action. She had a beautiful “plan B” already prepared. It was a seamless transition of chairs, decorations, food, dance floor and just about everything else. It looked as if it was rehearsed a hundred times. In fact, none of the guests even knew that a change had taken place. The most amazing thing: The overwhelming exclamation from everyone who attended the wedding was a simple, unqualified “this wedding is the best wedding I’ve ever seen!”

I think all of us in our family would agree that there was not one thing we would change and that Kathie’s competent, self confident manner assured us every step of the way that things would go together and be all that we had hoped for. We put our complete trust in her abilities and were so incredibly satisfied with the results.

I would give Kathie the highest recommendation possible and I could give many more examples of her superb abilities, but I don’t want this to be too lengthy. I would welcome a phone call from anyone who would like to ask any questions and hear a glowing verbal recommendation. Using Kathie’s services was the best business decision we could possibly have made.
